    Worn born

So I could use a .020 ring and file it down enough to get the .002 gap I need without using a bigger piston ? This sounds like an easy fix to my problem...

    Worn born

I have a briggs 5hp #130202 engine on a kart that I've been working on. The problem is oil is getting up into the head. I purchased a new set of rings, installed the top ring about 1" down into the bore and measured the end gap which was .014. Now, I know I'm shooting for a gap of .002. Now...

    oil in head

I checked the piston slop and it's tight, no play that I can feel. I think I'm gonna give the std. chrome rings a shot. The book says they're good for .005 overbore so we'll see what happens. Worst case, I'm out $15.00 and the engine has new rings.

    oil in head

Since this is an aluminum bore I read that I have to use chrome ring sets and do not deglaze the cylinder ? I've found oversized std. rings but not chrome. How do I know if the rings are worn out or if the cylinder is ? I'm new to working on engines so pardon the newbie questions.

A few days ago I landed on a website that sells race parts for the Briggs 5hp and one of the items I was interested in was head gaskets. This site had copper and aluminum all the way down to .020. I didn't save the link and now I can't find it. Anyone know who sells thinner head gaskets ? I'd...

    Rejetting the carb ?

A neighbor gave me a kart with a briggs 5hp Model#130202 engine. He also gave me a couple of boxes full of spare parts. As usual, I can't leave something stock so I did some research and was amazed at the amount of aftermarket/hotrod parts available. So yesterday I took the head off and...
