Thanks for all of this info. Very helpful. In my way of thinking I had come to the same conclusion as Richard's sketch at the top of the thread the governor would just need to be able to overcome the spring tension correct?
The #41 chain won't fit over my lower control arm sprocket. Fits the drive sprocket just fine. My lower sprocket is obviously thicker. I tried a #40 and it seems to loose in length. It does however fit nicely over both sprockets. I guess I either take my lower sprocket to the lathe for the #41or...
What is the point of the 2ea 1/4" bolt holes.? Did the original muffler have a small flange and those acted as safety bolts so it wouldn't unscrew prematurely? They look to close to the port to have been for an exhaust flange type option. Please excuse my NEWBery to the small engine game.
Believe me sparkwizard I want to keep this thing as close to original as i can. just ran a 1/4-20 bottom tap down the two bolt holes and they cleaned up pretty good. My 3/4 tap falls into the hole. I have every tap known to man but a 1" NPT
These are pretty bad. I think the old Muffler was rattling around in that hole for so long it basically just wiped them out if you look at this picture I think you can tell
It has almost no compression and the exhaust threads are completely gone. You can see in the picture that the muffler was being held in place by some kind of "J" bolt. Thanks Richard.
Anyone have leads on where to get new mount isolators?

My buddy just dropped of his deceased older brothers Twister that has been sitting in a garage for 45 years. He has asked me to restore it to its former glory and I am honored. I topped off the oil, poured a little fuel down the throat and it lit off and ran for 5 or seconds on the first pull...
