    Started a MW Gilson XE424

Took over a year to start messing with it, but finally started. The HS50 is off a Roof chipper vac someone rolled out on trash night. 1” shaft isn’t ideal, but I should be able to work around it. Had to straighten the fork legs on the hydraulic press. All the bearings were shot, cleaned-up...

    Sears Mini Bike Headlight

I’ve got a front headlight from a Sears mini bike. Not perfect by any means, but would look nice on a rider or survivor. Not all dinged-up or anything. Not sure if the glass GE lamp/lens is proper for the light or not, but it is included. It’s a PAR-style sealed beam. Not planning to use this...

Gilson / Wards Headlight and Taillight

I’ve got a front and rear light from a Montgomery Wards XE424, though it’s probably the same for several Gilson-made minibikes. Not perfect by any means, but usable or restorable. The headlight bucket has a slight depressed flat spot on the edge that could likely be fixed, and there’s some...

    Another Bonanza Project

Might be a nice restomod if you can fabricate the missing items and adapt to readily available components. Nice you have a good example to take measurements from!

Coleman Powersports B200R without rear suspension still a good buy?

I’d go forward with the BT200R bikes and put some of the money you save towards torque converters. The suspension won’t make that much difference with the big tires, plus you get fewer parts and more simplicity. Kids are basically made out of cartilage, so they won’t know the difference...

Time to drain gas from the tanks and carbs.

I fill metal tanks full of fresh ethanol free, drain the float bowl, and it’s good all winter. E0 because it’s not hygroscopic, and full so as to have minimal air space for moisture to form. No stabilizer required; at least I’ve never needed it. If so equipped, I bring batteries inside.

Tell me about my Trail Horse

I usually have to play with the main jet adjustment at the bottom of the bowl to get proper operation throughout the rev range, but a bit of fine tuning is to be expected.

    Cat frame repair

I like clutch brakes for an economical and effective solution. It works for pretty much any chassis without modification, is fairly inexpensive, and stops with authority (as long as your chain stays on, lol…). :D Bonus is most kits include a guard, so you don’t have go out and get one of those.

Arizona has no Vintage Mini Bikes?

I think AZ’s population has grown 6X since 1960, and most of that more recently. Someplace like Michigan had AZ’s current population numbers back in 1960. Overall, my theory is there just weren’t as many people to buy them, and maybe they were a bit removed geographically from where most of...

    Got this headlight…

Based on pics I found online, I’m going on the assumption that this is from a Sears Roper mini bike. I still wonder if the sealed-beam GE lamp is the right one for it though.

    Got this headlight…

It came on a Sears Roper minibike that I bought a ways back. One of those ones with the rear shocks that operate against a tilting motor plate… Anyway, it may have come with the bike from the factory, but I’m not entirely certain. I don’t think the GE sealed beam is a proper fit for it, as it...
