I picked up a 1988 H60 for next to nothing yesterday. Tore it down to assess the damage (a lot!). Will need to be bored and needs a new crank. Must be something about big blocks, because this is the second one I've picked up with the governor spool in pieces. Piston rod broken into little pieces...
I'm in the process of changing all of my 1960's three horsepower and four horsepower Briggs motors from points and condenser ignition to electronic ignition. All the new units arrived today and now I have a question. Protruding from the module are two smaller wires like in the picture below...
Has anybody tried the Universal Electronic Ignition (MEGA FIRE IGNITION) sold by Jacks Small Engine. For $21.00 it seems too good to be true.
I'm curious how well it works.
Can someone give me some info on this Briggs 5hp? Steel bore, bearing crank, electronic ignition, year? Thinking on buying it. Don't have a model number.
I got an older 5hp Briggs. So I picked up a "new style coil *magnetron* with an aluminum flywheel, I will no longer be running points ignition, my question is; the keyway don't line up in the same place....is this due to the difference in the ignition set-ups, or is my motor so old they have...
Hi, I just bought a 1970's Super Bronc. I'm wanting it to have points instead of electronic ignition, so before tearing it down I thought I'd ask here.
The engine #'s are HM80-1550-42A , and , Serilal # 41650
According to the thread here, it appears to be an 8 hp built on the 2nd day of...
This is a new PVL electronic ignition mounted on a new production Wico points stator plate. This unit replaces the Wico coil, points and condenser on the older West Bend and Chrysler 820 CCW (PTO side) engines. Not drilled and tapped for the points and condensor. I have found it needs to be...
What is the difference between say the H50 short block that ruppparts sells vs a standard h50? All my tecumseh engines have been points. I did nnot know they electronic ignition?
I am currently working on restoring my Super Bronc. It has it's original engine and years ago, I tried to replace the points with a cheap electronic ignition. The generator flywheel magnets were throwing off the electronic ignition and the engine was firing at the wrong time. I went back to the...
I got a free 5 hp briggs off an old lot vacume that has been sitting outside for a long time has no spark. Engine was made in 1980. I was wondering what model # of coil to use to upgrade to electronic ignition? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am trying to figure where, or at what point on the flywheel when it passes the coil does it trigger the voltage to the spark plug? I am trig to change the timing by using offset flywheel keys, I had to make the keys because as usual they are not available for my engine. The coil has three legs...
Hello all. I'm trying to rebuild an A.P.E. Dunecycle and have found a good deal on a Horizontal Shaft engine (Briggs & Stratton 185432-0246 9 HP Vanguard Series). Now, I really want to run lights and such but the engines with alternators are so expensive, and I haven't found any within my range...
I just pulled the shroud off to take a look underneath..There do not appear to be any wires coming to the coil from under the flywheel..Is this some sort of electronic ignition?..Judging by the way the mounting holes are all screwed up I would say its probably not original?
Rather than take BraneDeadX's very cool project log off track with general EFI discussion or resurrect other old threads, I decided we could have a dedicated thread right here. Many people seem to be interested in fuel injection, but it is not generally a simple task. It requires some knowledge...
