1 inch grip

#1
Hi OldMiniBikes! I have a grip problem that has stumped me today. I am fixing up a K&S Hornet. I bought a predator 212 and a Mikuni carb. There are 2 problems:
1. The bars are not 7/8" size, they are 1". This greatly limits my twist throttle options.
2. The throttle cable came with a connection that would hook up to a twist throttle found on a Doodlebug. But I can only find that type throttle assembly in 7/8". 1562369799239.png
This is the throttle cable that I want to use (although I will purchase a different one if I need to).

This is the throttle cable assembly on my Doodle bug. The cable shown would fit. Any suggestions from someone smarter than me would be amazing. Thank you in advance for anyone who reads this.

Here are a few 1" throttles from thousands of eBay search hits, there are many more if none of these would work with your cable. You may need to make a custom cable. There are many other sources if you don't like eBay.

Another option would be to cut off the end of the bar and weld a section of 7/8" tubing on so you can use a 7/8" throttle. Get the throttle you want to use first so you can make the 7/8" tube the right length for the throttle to fit against the reduction joint and the modification would be nearly undetectable.

Holy Moly! that's a lot of options. I'm just doubting that the throttle cable male end will screw directly into the Harley throttle grips. There are definitely plenty of 1" grip options, just wasn't sure how to make a cable match up. Was hoping to use the one I have, but that may not be an option.

That would be really stupid to cut up a vintage bike to make that work.

There are many 1" MINI BIKE throttles for sale. Our host at OldMiniBikes Warehouse sells them. What type of carburetor are you using on your K&S?

Here are the ones at OldMiniBikes Warehouse. Some are kits, and some are just throttles and grips. You can also do an ebay search for 1" mini bike throttles. If you call the OldMiniBikes help desk, they can assist with sizes and types of ends you may need depending on your engine application. Sometimes I make my own for Mikuni or PZ round slide carburetors and use the standard mini bike throttles. Those are the only applications I have found where I need 90 degree bends for clearance.

Thank you everyone for your input so far. I ordered some budget Harley grips for the 1" bars. I guess the cable issue will just be on hold until I get the grips. Maybe a local bike shop can help me out with a cable. I don't think i have to infrastructure to customize a cable.

All harley throttle controls will accept your 90 degree bend....the thread pattern on the one you have maybe an issue...you can have your local hd shop order you a very cheap drag specialities cable-or amazon-about $28 for the 90 degree cable....customizing cables is really no issue if you have a Dremel tool....housing seems to be the toughest for me but the dremel cuts right through it...I run a piece of old cable back through the housing to make sure no burrs before installing good cable...cut the wire separately with cable cutters...about 3 inches longer than housing...pull off your chrome Ferrell end for replacement.....just cut one down yesterday...

Hey my friend, the "ignore" option does wonders. The newbies learn soon enough, and all you gain by protecting them from idiots is a headache.

@Skipp I take a lighter to the ferule and melt it off, and then back on when I have trimmed the outer sheath, and have soldered on my replacement barrel to the cable. This is another case of an individual trying to make a slide carb cable. So many of these guys shy away from cable repair, when all it takes is a cheap propane torch, some silver solder and flux, and a bit of 1/8 copper tubing.
