196cc clone vs 212cc Predator

This will hurt his low end torque and increase his top speed. He can either make engine improvements for more power, or add a torque converter. If he is willing to make the necessary governor removal mods, he can regear for more torque (larger rear sprocket) without losing any top speed.
Agree, I would either get a torque converter or do a governor removal mod and do a larger rear sprocket. A 60 tooth with the governor would be good. The governor removed with a 60 tooth and a torque converter would be sweet though.

The rear sprocket is a 50 tooth. The motor is a 10 and there isn't much of a selection for any thing else for clutch. I found an 11 tooth clutch but it's about $100 and would do the opposite. The Jack shaft after that is a 20 tooth on motor side. On opposite side is a 10 tooth and finally a 50 at the rear. It makes for a total of 10:1 gear ratio. I believe the 60 would make it a 12:1. Someone correct me if I am wrong as I am not the greatest at math but I think you divide 10/12 which gives you 83 meaning there should be 17% more torque with 60 tooth over a 50 right? If so that's a pretty good jump in torque.

A 60 on the rear will give you a nice bump in torque and a governed top speed of around 19 mph. But nothing compared to a torque converter, even with the stock rear sprocket. With the torque converter and stock sprocket, you will start with a 15:1 or so and finish with 5:1.

Not sure about all the calculations but you could try swapping out the clutch sprocket for a bigger one like 14 tooth

Many are satisfied with the stock gearing plus a TAV. Others weren't because of the TAV's overdrive function limiting RPM's at top speed. There were a couple guys in the Coleman group who geared to 7:1+ by adding a 72 tooth rear sprocket for their final drive.

In my opinion a good starting point with a TAV would be 10 tooth and a 60 tooth. Then if you still want more (RPM's at top speed) get a 9 tooth.

I do not have a TAV. My thinking is based on what others have said and done to these Coleman's.

I don't think they make a 14 tooth for the 420 chain sprockets. I have only found 10 tooth and 1, 11 tooth that was aver $100. If the sprocket for the jack shaft on motor side could be swapped for a 35 chain sprocket it would allow for a lot more freedom in gear changes using a clutch but don't know if that is an option. Would not be cost effective anyways as by the time you bought the sprocket and a new clutch you might as well bought an Ebay torque converter. I have not looked for gears for my torque converter but believe there are a few options.

I have not bought the 60 tooth rear yet but plan this my self. My complaint with my bike is the lack of torque and a little top speed. Expecting the torque converter and 60 tooth is going to be a good set up.

I built up the 196cc Hisun. Never had a predator so I can't directly compare but I am turning 8000+ rpms with a BM Jr cam and other goodies. The engine has always run well.

If anyone is looking for a mild/moderate build with the Hisun without swapping carbs, you can get to around 6500 rpm with an intake, header, bullet muffler, .38 jet, 140 etube and arc flywheel, rod and 18lb springs.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about either build for the coleman.

CS Grind Core cam, ARC 303 rod, PVL flywheel w/4°key, 14cc head w/22# springs, billet intake, Ruixing 212 carb w/ 140 emulsion and Gx340 jet, big J header, governor delete, governorless throttle linkage, Max Torque SS/Box Stock 12t clutch, custom spring tensioner and split sprockets. This bike is dubbed "The Predator Getter." Baja Motorsports/Hensim DB30-S chassis. 20200626_092541.jpg 20200626_092138.jpg 20200626_092144.jpg 20200626_092541.jpg 20200626_092144.jpg 20200626_092138.jpg

I am 100% jealous of your stock DB frame with that faded stock powder coat. I'd be willing to pay up for something like that. Where are you located?

All I'd want are the frame and forks.
They are getting rare, I bought the sun burnt frame in Florida and shipped it to NH. I picked up another one in MA a few weeks ago, it's a Hensim DB30R (Red one is a DirtBug, Green is a DirtBug Racer) 20200613_182000.jpg 20200613_182010.jpg 20200613_182013.jpg 20200613_182029.jpg

I had it up for $650 with a fresh built out Gx160 (new 168f block, 168f crank, Honda qx2 cam, ARC long rod, UT2 flat piston, PVL flywheel, billet intake, Ruixing 212 carb with 140 E tube/Gx340 jet, polished Honda gx160 head and header and all I got was people making fun of me and telling me my motor was garbage because I opened the crankcase on it.....

I decided to keep it when no one would offer more than $300 with the gx160 AND a stock Predator. That's when I sold my Ct200r project and put the 196 on it. I sold the Coleman with a stock Predator and made the sun burnt bike my everyday ride. If I ever decide to sell again I'll post on here for sure. At least people see the value. Maybe my next build will change my mind!
