1971 Dune Cycle!

Just wanted to share some pics of this amazing original Dune Cat a friend of mine picked up. It has not been run in a year or so I plan to get it fired up make sure all is well with it and let him enjoy it. I think it should be left absolutely untouched from its current condition. I was 13 in 1971. One of my neighborhood friends got one of these for Christmas. We had a ball taking it out on the frozen lake we lived on. We ran the dog snot out of that thing for a couple years. Then we got real dirt bikes, then we discovered girls......

It’s alive and really fun!! Had to do a bit of tuning on it but got it running like a top now. Really faster than I was expecting it to go. The guy who sold it to my friend says they are hard to tip over…. I would disagree with that. I had the inside wheel off the ground numerous times but I let off the throttle and down it went. I can see it rolling over fairly easy with an adult on it. Lol.
Now I have to give it back to my buddy. Before I have too much fun on it.

looks beautiful!!!!

In about 77 my buddies dad got him a dune cycle and a mud bug....his dad was a sheriff and I would bet he took them from a kid...we had fun.

That’s an amazing Dunecycle! Especially notable is that NATVA-ATA sticker, so cool! Definitely leave it as is, looks to be in great condition and very rare. I just got mine going again but yours is remarkable!

New carburetor and exhaust installed runs perfect! The exhaust was done as kind of a nod to the VW sand buggies like the stinger pipes. It sounds great too not any louder than stock the original muffler was just about rusted apart. Leaks etc.

Looks like you are running it w/o the lock nut tightened up against the block? If so, with time/use it will loosen up and vibrate and end up messing up the (aluminum and softer) threads in the block. For that length and weight I would recommend a header brace as well. Just a head's up....

Don't use those cheap thin aftermarket ones- they do not work very well.
