3HP gas tank gunk.

This is the worst mess I have ever seen in a gas tank. Not even sure what all the chunks and lumps are. Maybe it was a sealer?

Those tanks did not ever drain from the bottom. They would collect years of gunk at the bottom if they weren't removed and dumped.
I have a couple of model 13 (5hp) tanks that had dunes on the bottom with a low spot around the pickup tube. The owner told me he had to remove the carb and tank several times to clean the little filter, but he never dumped the tank. They are still running irrigation pumps every spring and summer. I replaced the tanks.
How did you get the chunks out?

I just kept shaking the tank upside down and was breaking those up.

That is the kind of junk that gets poured into our tanks from unfiltered gas cans.

I have no clue what that stuff was. I bought the engine at a swap meet. The inside of the tank doesn't look to good.
