64 Briggs Powered Schwinn

#61
Started painting. Three stage, House of Kolor. KD3000 sealer, then metallic silver base, but I added some blue dye to it to speed up coverage. Then an interim clear coat with more dye added. This is not clear coated yet. I got some official Schwinn water slide decals, and applied them over the scuffed blue, then sprayed four coats of water-based acrylic clear over the decals. This is so the follow on clear urethane (solvents) won't disolve the water slide decal. I'll clear it tomorrow. Here's how she sits tonight. Decal.jpg

Thanks folks. You win some and you lose some!

I apparently did not use enough clear acrylic to cover, and I may have not allowed the first coat urethane flash to go long enough. I'll probably be redoing the wrinkled side, because no matter what my future holds, I will always regret not fixing it. Left side bad, right side good. (Two photos) (Expletive here)

Dang it! I feel your pain. At least you seem to know why it happened. My reason would be "Well, duh! should have left it the way it was!"
Does this mean you need to sand one side and blend it back together?
It won't smooth out when it dries, will it?

Thanks for your comment. I will use a "very fine" abrasive pad and get down to where I start removing the decal. That is four coats of urethane, and four coats of acrylic. Once most of it is gone, I will revert to fine grit wet sanding, blending in the edges. (Feathering) Then I will scuff the entire top frame, and re-apply the decal. Then acrylic, then urethane. The trick is to not go in to the blue mid coat. I've learned that to enjoy a hobby, I better enjoy failing sometimes too, because it's part of the deal.

A quick comment as I am assembling- as Sparkchaser indicated, there was some shrinkage. I also attacked it with a hot air gun, my index finger and spit, heat, rub, pray, heat, rub, pray, until it's pretty much a five footer. Since this is not a vintage Schwinn bicycle restoration, I am going to live with it, because quite frankly, the other shit I am putting on right now just makes it all better.
