Another Clinton in the barn

#1
I have been looking for a Clinton megaphone muffler like the ones on E65 kart engines. I also need at least one Tillotson pumper carb with a remote pulse hose for a few more projects. I just got this one delivered this morning. I got it from ebay for fifty bucks. It's a Clinton D25 chainsaw . I think they were 73cc saws. IMG_20251008_110401.jpg

I got another Tilly with remote pulse hose, a clutch, fuel tank with a bar oil tank that can be used as reserve, a remote air cleaner and a recoil and shroud that might fit my boat motor project. IMG_20251008_105949.jpg IMG_20251008_110006.jpg
Look at this aluminum spark plug cover. IMG_20251008_110213.jpg

I pulled the rope, expecting some extreme difficulty. Either a stuck engine or a fouled rope. It pulled and the engine turned, quietly and with good compression. I pulled the plug, and checked for spark. No spark. Bummer. While taking pictures for you folks to see, (plus I like before and after pics), I saw an on off switch hiding on the handle up behind the fuel tank. When in the ON position, it fires the plug. Hmmm....there is semi-fresh fuel in the tank, so it seems like someone at least tried to make smoke during this century. I put the E3 plug back in. (not a fan of E3's but it did spark at least twice) With a spray of premix in the carb it barked off on the second pull. So loud it scared me and it almost jumped off the porch!
I did not expect that, and my innocent little pet pigs went screaming and running for cover.
I turned the fuel valve on and set the choke, pulled about five times and lost interest. No big deal, I have carb kits.
This carb goes on the boat motor, the megaphone goes on the D35 chainsaw mini bike project, along with the clutch, maybe.
The gas tank might go on the PP AH47 scooter project, but not sure about that yet. More parts on the shelf are always a good thing!

The reed plate and intake manifold from this saw will fit my 7 horse boat motor.
The boat manifold has the carb mounted sideways and off center toward the flywheel.
I do not want to try to tune the carb mounted like that. The saw manifold will twist the carb 90 degrees and point it toward the sky. I have a West Bend 75degree elbow to get the carb horizontal.

@RobertC , the megaphones were the original mufflers on these saws. I think there was a screen inside to catch sparks, but they were still extremely loud.

The lesson to be learned here :"Loud pipes save lives."
Or, if you hear a chainsaw in a tree, look up and see what is being cut.
That is sad and tragic.
