How does the pull start rope "loop" through the handle on a Tecumseh engine.?

From the bottom, through the rubber, then that piece of metal, pull it out for knot:

Make loop, slide bitter end in once, around, then again. Cinch it up. Use a lighter and crimp the end.

So the knot will actually end up inside the metal peice once it has been melted some, then push back into the rubber handle without any extra bulge on the rubber...?

Theres that "infamous" 2 1/2 hp side tank tecumseh. Love em!

Just put a new one on a bike yesterday:
