Carbon has fouled compression rings and exhaust valve is burned. Haven't had one of these relics apart in many years. Re living my youth i suppose. Sure wish my dad was still around to help me along. He could do these old flathead motors blindfolded.
Finally found a few minutes time to dig this little project out and grind the valve seats and resurface valves. I sold my valve refacing equipment many years ago and have no intentions of purchasing replacement tools at this stage of my life. I have a small lathe and can reface valves easily. Valve seats were another matter. Still not going to purchase seat cutters for a one time project. Took a 1/4 shaft mounted stone in lathe and cut correct seat angle onto stone. Face is now true to arbor centerline. Leave stone centered in lathe chuck. Found scrap bolt and inserted threaded end in lathe tail stock chuck and smeared a bit of JB weld to bolt head and cemented bolt to stone. Both are dead center. Simply rotate this ghetto seat cutter with cordless drill and seats are done. Seat width and height were confirmed correct and next step is light abrasive lapping and pressure testing. Have to source a set of piston rings and a few gaskets and she be a runner soon enough….
