Im not new 2 this site but I am, havent been here in bout 3 yrs. I acquired a 72 prowler(to go with the rupps sitting in the cellar). I have a few ?'s. Im sure the veterans on here have heard them all a hundred times. First of all, color. What tank color?or something close.next headlight mount,I have the light, need a bracket or a pick of one.The guy I bought it from said is buddy has the mount but cant get in touch with him. Next, I have the whole recoil but the spring is broke. I have a few old recoils and thought about tearing them apart and trying to match a spring. Possible? Thanks for this site and hope to meet some knowledgable people. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Todd,

Has anyone found a recoil spring that will work on the prowler?
Sachs 50cc? if so then they are real hard to find. I had a Coleman mini that had a Sachs engine and it took me 3 years to get a nice one. I roll started it in 3rd gear to get her going. Never seemed like it bothered the tranny but its probably not the best way to start em. Good luck.

I have 2 Arctic Cat Prowlers ('71 and '72) and 4 or 5 Sachs 50cc engines. I'm putting together a video on how to rebuild A Sachs from the ground up. Really easy.

I too have a recoil without a spring. Funny you mention it because I just picked up an old Homelite chainsaw spring to make a new one out of. I'll try to video the process, assuming it works.

There are no NOS springs anymore but a couple guys make them. $20 our more I think. I have $7 invested in my Homelite one. I'll post a followup on how it goes.

BTW, tank color on AC Prowlers was sort of a reddish orange copper metallic. They fade pretty bad and every pic looks different. I'll try to post a pic of an old one I have but it's a little faded. There's a prowler poster on Ebay right now taken from original marketing that shows the color well.

Arctic Cat Prowler Paint Color

Here are a couple of pics. Hopefully we're talking about the same kind of bike (Arctic Cat) and not some other bike called a Prowler.

One pic is of a nicely restored bike (not mine) and the other is of an original fuel tank that's been stored inside for 30+ years (mine). It's a bit faded but you can see something close to the original color, especially under the clear Caution sticker on the lower right corner of the tank.

This paint was metallic and faded really easily. I also heard from a friend of mine who's dad was one of the design engineers on this bike that you could put 2 brand new bikes side by side and they might vary slightly in color. He said they used to use whatever they had on hand back then, which makes restoring one a little harder, or easier, depending on how you look at it. Lots of parts like forks, springs, brakes, lights, etc. were common among brands back then.

Hope this helps. Please post some pics of yours. Like I said, maybe we're talking 2 different bikes altogether. If Arctic Cat though, then the headlight mounts were just welded plates on the forks and painted black like all AC frames. You can always PM me if you need more info. I've got lots.

If only the end broke, you can probably fix it. From what I've read, a torch and a little patience is all you need. Some can be bent cold but tend to break. I'll find out and let you know.
