Cylinder Head Tin Question

On older Briggs engines, what is the purpose of the V shaped cutout on the cylinder head tin?

Oops, was not what I thought, my guess is a kill switch wire from the spark plug would be routed under that to keep it in place.

I recall that was used to clip the spark plug lead to ground it while servicing.

Didn't it sometimes have a spring sprung onto it?
