Do I need to File this down for proper gasket seal?

Long weekend!

Got all the parts in and began the install on a 6.5 Lifan (One bad A$$ motor)

Made some minor adjustments and got the mini up and going.

1. On the lifan , I found by running the open header I had to take the factory air box off and let it breathe then she ran like a champ.(new air filter kit and jets on the way)

2. Turned the throttle stop so she wasnt so sensative. Tossed me 2 times cause I was a little ambitous. All is well just landed on soft dirt haha.

3. Fuel Tank temporarily relocated to the back of the frame until my new one arrives.

After about 20 minutes on the new motor I smelled motor oil burning.
I found that the main gasket must had been torn when it was installed from the factory, which allowed some oil to leak and spray out of the motor:mad2::mad2:

A gasket is on the way.

Here is my question. Does this look like the culprit that may have caused the gasket tear, or just a bad gasket. Also, do I need to file this down before installing the new gasket?

Looks like that would hold the case out, or at least cut the gasket. I would get rid of it.

I agree you should remove that.

Before you put it back together try to chase out the holes in the block. If the factory used self threading bolts there is a chance one or more bolts torqued off before actually squeezing the cover to the block, hence your blown gasket. I have seen a few briggs intek twins do this.

That bump looks like a casting flaw. I would suggest laying a straight edge along the gasket surface of the side cover and see if the bump is higher than the sealing surface thus causing the problem. The Lifan GK series engines have been great so far. I have used several of them for performance builds and this is the first problem I have seen. I like the fact that they already come with a small chamber 14cc head, along with other features that make them a great platform for Clone hotrod projects.
I will contact you and help get it fixed asap.

does the gasket have a deep indent in the shape of that spot? the gasket looks to me it split from improper installation since it's tore up further on the cover..

It does have a small indention.

The bump is higher, just tried to take a pic of but it wouldnt show as close as needed. Again, ProMod is top notch!!
