Explain the benefits of a torque converter.

#1
I am going to be building a Trail Blazer this summer. I have a 212 Pred that I am going to use. It is currently on my ARCO with a 41 chain and clutch.

I was looking at the Torque converter option. I know how it works on a car, but is the juice worth the squeeze on a minibike?

Please make your case for or against. I have seen 6" set-ups for less than $120.00.

Thanks
Dave

i will let you know what i am experiencing with my tav.
GX390, Baja Warrior, TAV30, stock driven sprocket, 21" OD rear wheel. i have gone through 3 belts so far. alignment's good. maybe i should get the 40/44 because the hp/tq is too much.
i get 50 mph, clocked using a motorcycle behind me and i can lift the front wheel up from a dead stop. i have no other minibikes so i have to rely on 40 years ago memory to remember what a cen clutch felt like.

If your Trailblazer has a jackshaft, good luck fitting the predator with a TAV in there. I was going to try the same thing with my Trailblazer, but it would have required a new motor plate angled way up and other mods.

Even without a jackshaft, the back of the predator motor needs to be raised up so the TAV will clear the frame. The would work with a flathead though.

I also tried it with a flathead and TAV and the backplate still hit the jackshaft brackets. It would clear an unsuspended frame.

I love the TAVs on my Super Bronc and DB30...

I made a motor mount to raise the whole engine up 1 1/2" for the trail horse bike I had so I could run a TAV, the engine I was going to use was a GX160 Honda

this is a pick of the mock up, I still have the motor mount. it will work good.

Nice job Rocco! Looks good!

I wasn't going to change my motor plate and I wanted to keep a flahead on mine so I just stayed with the stock centrifugal setup. Glad I did now as I think it looks good.

I'm currently experimenting with installing a TAV30 on my Trail Blazer. I used the driver on the engine, a 12" j/s from OldMiniBikes and mounted the driven outboard of the frame rail. Hope to have some results this week. JMBmini mounted a TAV30 with the stock backing plate on his Blazer two years ago. He's running a big Tec flathead though.
