feeling my age.

I"m 68 years old. When I was a kid, we just didn't. have the money for a mini bike. I would see pictures in magazines and cut them out hoping one day I would have one. Didn't get my first one until I became a father and found a frame and parts and built one for my kids. I was lucky enough to work only two jobs in my career. One for 20 years and another for 25 years. The jobs were great and allowed me to provide for my family and retire at 61 years old. During my working days, I bought and built and sold a lot of mini bikes and go karts. Aways had some project in my garage. Maybe making up for the times when I was young and couldn't afford any. Now that Im retired, I moved to a condo in Florida. No garage anymore. I do keep one mini bike at my mother in laws house in Alabama that I go back a couple of times a year and work on it. I still love these things and wish I still had a garage to work on them. My wife thinks Im crazy. Never made a penny on any bike I bought and sold, but it was the fun of working on them and riding them around the neighborhood until I sold it and the next project came along. Still enjoy looking at everyones projects on line almost daily.
There just numbers and they don't mean much until they run out. I have seen 15 different presidents starting with FDR and live through the best of times met some great people over the years and still working because I just love what I am doing so it really isn't work. It is a place to hide from my wife who has some jobs she wants done and I will leave those for the next husband. Just enjoy what you are doing because we only go around once, there are no do overs.

Funny how most of us are around the same age (2nd childhood, lol) I'm 68 and like some of the others here had a mini bike when a kid but got back into it as a hobby around 5 yrs ago. It was during Covid and was something to do while shut down. Rebuilding Tecumseh motors once in a while now. Still working / semi-retired with my own copy machine repair business.
My wife loved the Monkees and had a huge pre teen crush on Davey Jones. Monkees reunited and appeared in NYC quite a few years ago. Big thrill for my adult wife to see her girlhood crush sing "Daydream Believer" in concert. I had great seats and she was in her glory watching concert. I looked over at my wife as Davey sang and saw a look on her face that I would never forget. She had this huge smile on her face that was just amazing to see. Pure joy, I would call it. The reason I shared her experience is my own feelings are similar after many,many miles on 2 wheeled gas driven thrill machines.
I think my joy is close or equal to her excitement then when I ride dirt bikes or mini bikes with my kids or grandkids or friends.

Auggie, back in my "World Shakin' Days" and still in Socal. My first date go to, was The Troubador. I saw quite a few soon to be big stars and among them were Peter Torq and Michael Nesmith. They both put on good shows and probably the biggest star was little Linda Ronstadt when "Different Drum" had just come out. What a sweetheart.
64 next month and in a 12 round match with some opponent called cancer, just finished the sixth round and I'm not going down, I love these mini bikes and waited over 50 years to own a few and am not done yet, I have one getting ready for paint and one getting stripped, Life is good and blessed to be here and doing what I always wanted to, Great forum, top of the line helpful members, happy to be part of and don't plan on going anywhere soon regardless of what my opponent has to say lol, update when I'm 70.....
