I have seen some old tractors with a big sprocket on the trans input shaft and a Predator with a centrifugal clutch. The original engines were governed to about 1800 RPM, so a 3600 RPM single cylinder engine isn't really underpowered.

My 1 liter 4 cylinder, 10 HP @1800 flathead 1947 tractor is a true beast. I can't explain it.

4 cylinders means 2 are firing on every revolution so if I am thinking right that could be why, like a 2 stroke only better
