Gas Tanks?

#1
I know this has probably been covered but I will ask anyway. I have two tanks, one with suface rust on the inside, and one with stinky varnish-gas inside the other. Looking for sugestions on best chemical cleaners. Appreciate any input.

I had this in a tank…it’s chunks of 30 year old gas….stuck to the bottom like glue….i took acetone and soaked it for about an hour and it all dissolved, left tiny flakes of shit though….then I filled the tank with evaporust overnight….then a suds bath, then a soaking or wd40…then about an hour maybe 2 of shaking with musts and bolts….another suds bath and wd40….then about 10 gallons of non ethanol fuel shakes rattled and rolled and drained through it…looks brand new….not the lazy way for sure….

Acetone will remove the varnish. For rust fill with bolts and shake until all of the loose stuff comes out with the bolts. Fill with white vinegar and let sit for a week or more. drain out, add some baking soda and water, slosh and flush with fresh water. add some denatured alcohol, slosh and drain, air dry. if not going to be used for a while, add some oil, slosh and drain.

Not the safest way but its quick I use muratic acid on rusty tanks its probably overkill for varnish but for rust just be really carefull not to get it on yourself or smell the fumes and the paint im not sure if it harms it but i dont take the risk wipe anything off right away. So i use the acid and water mix and a handfull of stones just let it soak for a half hour whatever shake it a bit and it cleans it up. Maybe do it a second time if it still has bad spots. When its good just flush it out really good let it dry and rinse it with gas or 2 stroke mix and its done.

I had the "spotty" corrosion issue with my 212 and I opted for a new tank as opposed to continually R&R-ing the fuel-filter and cleaning the new VM-22 clone, weekly...
Amazon has a large selection of fuel tanks. I chose this .tank I am very pleased with the design and awesome features...
