H70 Head bolts

Does anyone know if the head bolts are a high grade or are they just normal 5/16-18 type bolts?

my guess would be grade 8...they just have that look and sound to them when you clank them together..but I'm not 100% sure.

A bolt that is too soft with too much "stretch" will really mess with your torque accuracy.....

Markings on the heads will guide you best if present. They would look like small lines. The number of lines would tell you what grade if not mistaken.

I just took a quick look and a lot of the bolts have 3 radial lines with a circle in the center....like Joe said the lines are an SAE grade indicator and 3 radial lines usually represents grade 5 so I stand corrected.....:shrug:

Yes 3 lines is grade 5, 6 would be grade 8. I got some from Auto Zone for my Briggs Intek at half(price) of what others wanted. Check with them, if not try Lowes or Home Depot.
