Heald Trail Bronc barn find

Picked this up for my dad last night. Very glad to see him get such a cool original survivor. Hopefully he will be cruising Windber on it. Has a lighted hs40 on it with good spark.

Your bike is a early VT-3 model ,yours has the first design seat for this bike, around 1974-1975 they changed the seat to a larger one that resembles the super bronc seat but smaller in size, the ID tag on the motor will get you very close to what year it is. Lookng forward to see it at Windber. Also all VT-3's were painted blue the same color as the VT-7's. The frame is the medium frame size,VT-3 and VT-5 are basicly the same bike just different colors. The first couple years ofthe VT-3 had a metal clutch cover, some were between 1972 - 1973 they went to the plastic covers not really sure on this,I have brochers with both metal and plastic covers. Hope this helps some, but it does get confusing at times trying to figure out what was really correct.

Thanks for that info. I believe the serial on the engine is 11736 but I have to double check. I was surprised to find that it had a brake light switch. It appears to be operated by the cable from the band/jackshaft brake? I'm crossing my fingers for my Dad that we can get it running well enough for him to enjoy there. I'll be looking for a a tail light lens or assembly if anyone can help.
