Looks like a 71 or later Roadster 2 (internal suspension, 12" spoke wheels). If there is chrome under the paint on the front end, it's probably a 71. If there isn't, then it's probably a 72 model.

It could have also been a Blackwidow, depending on the serial number. Check if it's still on the seat pan under the foam.

Thanks a lot!! The recoil is broke and carb is toast and has way too much compression was told too much $ to fix and to try and find an engine.

That's not the original engine. It would have originally had an early 70s round-shroud HS40. They're not TOO hard to find, but almost everything you'll find will need a rebuilt or will be expensive.

You can run a Honda clone on those as well. In fact, Gumpit has a thread on one he's building right now. It's called Clupp under the Projects forums

Thanks again, I have never done a restore. I will look into the clone. My grandsons just want it going again I think it could be a nice old bike.

Harbor Freight sells a Predator 6.5 hp engine. I am pretty sure you have to modify the intake manifold since it'll be sitting on a slant.

I actually have an early 70s HS40 that'd be a good candidate for restoration if you're interested. I nearly forgot that I had it

Do you have a Harbor Freight store in Ohio ? 212 Predator engine $100.00 with a online coupon....maybe on sale right now for $99.00.

Yes I have a Harbor Freight close by. How much work does the HS40 need? I am not too handy lol. How much??
As far as modifying the intake i would have to figure out what to do I have no clue lol

That is a 1973 and up sprocket on the rear wheel...same as my 1975.

Need better pictures...but it could be the correct engine...1973 and up came with a square shroud.

Your Rupp might be a 73 to 76.

Thanks Paul I will get some better pics and send them to you. That engine is toast. Needs new carb, new recoil and has way too much compression cant hardly roll it over. I was thinking of going with the 212 from harbor freight. Not sure yet.

The "too much compression" could be a sheared flywheel key, when they get bent the rope will try to rip out of your hands. Which leads to recoil damage.
Or not.
Get the clone for now and worry about old engine later.
I had a clone mounted on an MTD with a slant frame and the engine didn't mind at all, so try it as is first before you try to make/modify the intake manifold.
