Yup, new guy here. Im just getting started building a woods mini/trail bike for my 14 yr old son. I just picked up the engine. Steel tubing delivery is set for tuesday, the wheels should be here 2morrow. Next purchase is a TAV2. I plan on building the rear swingarm tomorrow and getting srarted on the forks and tripletree b4 the week ends. Im chomping at the bit to get started.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you are not starting with an already made frame or bike?

I am all for custom builds, don't get me wrong. Just wondering if you has something extra special in mind.

Welcome to OldMiniBikes.

Love scratch builds, looking forward to what you will be creating.
The lads are right though if you've never built from scratch before a built frame is a good place to start.

Keep the pics coming we love pics:thumbsup:

Im going custom for several reasons, I have 3 weeks of unemployment to burn b4 the weather breaks (im an ironworker). I want to run about 8 inches of ground clearance. 10" wheels (19" tire od) . Mono coilover rear swing arm and dual coilover shock front forks . Oh, and ive been fabricating for over 20 years and thought this would be a fun build.:scooter:

Ok, so I just cheated. Couldnt pass, them up for the price. Spacing and travel is perfect. Didnt have the right wire diameter springs for the ones I was building, my search led me here.

progress so far

Steel delivery was pushed back till friday. Had to do something I hate to do, use second hand steel. My son agreed to remove all existing paint, surface rust, etc.. if we started on the frame today.
