How to tell a Honda Trail 70 knock off?

I have done the unthinkable. Looking at a local on line consignment auction I frequent and they had a Honda Trail 70. Not a lot on it in the way of decals etc and it does not run, but I got it cheap. It is an hour away and I have not looked at it in person, just taken the seller word on a lot of stuff. My question is this. When I get next to it, is there something I can look at to tell if it is really a Honda and not a copy? A little late to ask, I know....but I would kind of like to know he is actually selling what he says he is.

Honda put a VIN plate on the front of the frame at the steering head that should say Honda Motor Company. It should be "CT70xxxxxxxx. Ten digits up until the early 80s then the world standard 17 digits beginning with a J after that.

The engine will have a serial number low and behind the left foot peg that should begin with "CT70E-xxxxx - ten digits I think.

Without these, its a Chinese knockoff.

I have had a few CT70's over the years and have sold them off for the ST90's that I have kept because you can ride them comfortably unlike the CT70's . A while back a friend had a China CT70 w/Lifan engine and I could not tell the difference between the Honda and the knockoff when riding the bike to be honest :shrug: .

Found the tag as described. Looks like the real deal and a 1970's model to boot. Engine says Honda on it also. Some orange showing thru the gobs of black paint someone put on it. Not my favorite color but no one saying I have to keep it that way as the orange is going to likely come off with the black. Appreciate the help! Time to get to work...
