I have a ball bearing crankshaft and side cover from an engine with points ignition. Can I swap this crank and side cove into a newer hs40 with a solid state ignition?

the cases were made to interchange, so those parts fit, You will be restricted to what taper is on your crank though for what flywheel you can use as they upped the taper and threaded snout size in the early 1980's.

It sounds like I need to keep looking for a pre80 engine.
