HS45 and HS50 parts interchange

I have a nos hs45 short block. I also have a tired hs50 engine will the head, and flywheel from the hs50 work on the hs45? Both engines are post 80 builds.

Never heard of an HS45 before !

The short block was labeled 4.5hp my mistake. The tag says Sbh-453A/7299F. This would have been for a roto-tiller or snowblower with a reverse because it has the extended camshaft.

your SBH engine is an HS50 short block and shows as having the late/large taper crankshaft so parts should interchange

Great, I took a chance for $25 at a flea market and it paid off for a change.

I got the engine put together last week. I had to change the cam and side cover because the short block had the extended cam for reverse. It took two downer engines but now I have a new 5hp. Now to find a bike to put it on.
