Most of the time people try to get minibikes running with what they on hand. Some of the ones I fixed as a kid were done using parts I found in my dad's mix match containers of stuff.

I think that's an excellent point. I'm going to imagine that dude was 15 and in a hurry to get to where his girlfriend was babysitting.
