Kawasaki 4 hp switch?

Hello, new to the site for me and I'm finding a lot of useful info. I recently bought a doodlebug that has the clone 6.5 on it. It doesn't have the adapter plate so the motor sits to the right side of the bike when sitting. It runs ok but I'm thinking about going a lil smaller just to putt around. Has anyone put the Kawasaki 4hp on theirs and if so how does it do?

Why spent the $$$ on another engine when yours is fine. If you want to putt around, then adjust the throttle back a bit so it doesn't rev high. Personally, I wouldn't mess with it. It sits off to the side so the clutch will line up with the sprocket. You might run into the same problem with the new engine.

Well to begin its not the best running motor. I wouldn't mind to have a clone motor on it, if it would sit right. Is that what the adapter for, then reverse the clutch to make it sit straighter? Hf has a sale on the predator 6.5 hp and those seem popular on here. I'm getting rid of my motor either way I go.

The 6.5 fits nicely in those if you run the clutch with the chain towards the engine. It looks like yours has the chain on the outside of the clutch which moves the engine a couple inches to the right side. The adaptor plate would fix it but you could also redrill the mounting holes so the engine sits correctly in the frame. Somebody already redrilled the mounting plate to put that engine in it, they just did it wrong. The 4HP will mount in the frame exactly the same as that engine unless you redrill it. I have a 4HP Honda in a DB-30 and it runs fine around the streets and stuff - light duty riding.

The clone predator will be on sale this weekend for 99$, I may just pick it up. I've got someone who wants the engine in it already, + I want a black engine if possible. Ive found a few 4 hp Honda and Kawasaki's but they re gonna be at least $250+. Any place to get that adapter for a good price? I found it for 40$ so far. Not looking to drag with this, I've got my 250r for that.

I'll continue to search so I won't ask so many questions. Thanks

The predator is no difference. you dont need the adaptor plate. why do you even think that? That is the way they bolt in. is the sprocket lined up with the clutch?

I know there is a way to just drill holes and bolt any engine in the db, I've just been reading and many have used an adapter for the clone. Just figured it would be easier so it can move either direction and I'd be able to flip the clutch over and shift the new engine to the left more so it would be more center. Yes it's all lined up and rideable.
