Haven’t had luck locating an original jackshaft set up, I got this one, it has a spot for the small band brake set up, I figured it’s not a bad idea to use it, I don’t how good the stopping power was with the original disk brake which is on the bike. I think using both will help preserve the disk set up. trying to get all the “ alignments” correct. Still looking for an original jackshaft if anyone has one. just seeing how things fit. i Have to make sure I leave room for some adjustment, the jackshaft holes and the engine mount holes are of course slotted, but the jackshaft holes are situated far back where the engine plate holes are far forward, leaving a small amount of adjustment available. Im not 15y/o anymore, lol, I won’t be beating the crap out of it, so I don’t anticipate needing a whole lot of adjustment any way. But is a little tricky. That first pic shows I’m off about two links now that the engine is in, it was perfect when I just had the engine sitting as far back on the jackshaft as I could get, without it being on the bike,The fourth pic shows how far back the engine is sitting, any further forward I would be maxed out w the jackshaft slots. The fourth pic also shows where I cut the support back just to get the jackshaft to sit on the engine plate, had to cut enough to fit on the engine plate, AND allow for some chain tensioning for rear chain. The chain tension is set correctly using the jackshaft bolt against the oil plug of the original H30..

It is difficult enough to set without the jackshaft bolt. I swapped on the H50 off the gilson and the front jackshaft chain is a bit loose as I can’t use the jackshaft bolt anymore as it doesn’t hit the oil plug on the H50

What year is the bike? I have a parts breakdown for the outlaw chopper. 1969 as it uses a 3HP Briggs. Last year for the Briggs on Lil Indian. They did use the shaft plate on that year. Either with just 2 sprockets or optional 2 speed. Note all Lil Indian plates were mounted under the engine plate. With your current set up that would not work due to the band brake hub. Which I am pretty sure is a comet part. Your plate I think is a CCS charger unit. Not 100% until I can locate the picture I have of one someplace. I don't have a 1970 brochure They did not list one in 1971.

That’s it! I had no idea what t was for. Now I feel real bad for altering the jackshaft. It’s probably an NOS piece, it had no signs of being mounted. Still going to keep it on till I find an original.

What’s up with the cross on the front of these??? I looked for a sticker/template and never knew what it was so I could never find a replacement to put on the front plate... Then I learned from member Adarter it’s a German Maltese cross? Is there any reason behind that?

I’m severely uninformed and I’m gonna guess I should be happy the Maltese cross on the front of mine was painted over?

Probably cause a Maltese cross fit the attitude of an “ outlaw chopper”. Funny how they also have the peace sign on the sissy bar, IMO, the peace sign does not fit the attitude, but I guess it does look cool here’s my Maltese cross, it’s chrome IMG_5780.jpeg
