I am working with a guy in Montana on an engine, Turned into a long chat and OldMiniBikes ame up. Turns Out he has tried to join multiple times and he is told his app is under review. Then he he never hears anything. Are we closed for businees or just kinda rude. I love this site, I hope this is an oversiight because I know hent is very busy but maybe he could delegate membership duties.

How can we fix this? Do we need more supporting members or just more members?
is it a matter of money or stupidity that has limited our membership?
Lets be nice. Hent is a one man show but hopefully, he can find someone he trusts to take on some of the duties. I have read the other threads before but this is the first time I have personally seen it in play. It was kind of embarassing when I told this guy what a great site this is and he said he tried to join but couldn't. Hey Hent, wht's up Buddy?

We can't fix it. I think it's due to a moderator not wanting to deal with weeding out undesirables and I think there is really only one moderator currently who, BTW, is not named "Moderator". It's quite obvious that Hent is not involved with the forum these days and hasn't been for quite some time, perhaps a loss of interest and/or lack of time, either/both are understandable. Pure speculation but without anyone presenting facts that's all I have. Perhaps a moderator or two will step out from the shadows to tell me I'm wrong...

A few years ago, when Hent mentioned possibly shutting down this forum, I suggested that he sell it to someone enthusiastic about it. When I joined eight years ago, there were more members online in the middle of the night than what there are in prime time, now, and activity is continually decreasing. There are even fewer members online than what the stats on the homepage show, maybe half, because a member is counted as being online for an hour after leaving this site; I deduced that years ago. At this moment, it shows 21 members online so maybe there are actually around 10-12... pitiful... Refresh the homepage, hover over the usernames at/near the end of the list to see their "Last seen:" (up to "59 minutes ago") and you will understand. It's a method to inflate the numbers. The cold hard fact is that this forum is dying and probably won't be around much longer unless Hent intervenes or turns it over to someone who wants to save it. I already miss what it once was, I'm not sure how much I would miss what it has become...

This is a great site, with more information than most people realize. I started it because there was none available. I spent countless hours on this site for about 10-12 years. For those who don't know, OldMiniBikes has been around since 2006. I've watched peoples kids grow up on here.

This site has made many good friendships and connections.

I definitely lost interest in the site and hobby when through my divorce I lost the business that I created. I received little traction when starting with my own parts, so I went in a different direction. I have an incredible fab shop that can basically manufacture any mini bike part or frame. One off or production. CNC Tube Bender, Plasma Table, Plasma Tube Cutter, Press Brake, Mill, etc.

When the members here support my old business and not me and this site.... well, I returned the favor in the same manner. Hence the state of the site and community. I understand I didn't have the same inventory, but thank yourselves for those who did that.

There are/were a few moderators, and I think everyone like me loses interest in the petty non-sense involved and an unpaid job. This site costs me ~$250-300 per month, and I'm lucky if I get 2-3 supporting memberships, new or renewals per month. That doesn't leave me much desire to improve or involve myself.

With that said, I don't have motivation to train someone. If someone had experience, it'd be different. You have to be completely unbiased, and only do it for the site whether you like someone's politics or beliefs. It doesn't fucking matter. Its about keeping spam out and allowing new members.

Edit: I do appreciate the offers for help, I may consider it, but I'll see how the replies go first.

Hent @Hent thank you for all you've done for the site over the years.

I'd also be happy to carve out some time to help around here.

This site and it's members mean so much to me.

THANK YOU, @Hent, for your continued dedication to the hobby and to this community.
Understanding the need for more financial support, I propose that we make this a site for paid subscriptions before buying or selling anything, posting or viewing images. That would reduce some of the one-time spammer-scammers, negate a lot of the teenage questions asked before actually researching their questions and still allow the site to say afloat.
I am not sure exactly how this works anymore, but I can only assume it would not cost you anything extra to allow access to a couple of members to your admin control panel. We are a dedicated bunch, old and set in our ways. Most of us seem to lean toward the center politically, but we all know what political bias is, and none of us like it.
Thank you all for reading.
Supporting Members $50/year, posting members without selling privileges, $10/year?

Most members did not know about the situation with your "old business", you made one post about it then deleted it (for legal reasons, you said) within hours. Not many members could have seen it. Some of us who did know tried to discourage other members from shopping there and/or mentioning it on here (you didn't block every way of naming it), I sent PMs to several members when they mentioned that place. You can't blame people for not knowing what they were never told. With some longtime members having left since then, I imagine an even smaller percentage of members know anything about that, now.

I just checked my Supporting Member status and it has expired, for how long I have no way of knowing. I've received no notification or any indication that it expired. Notify us when our SM expires and keep that little bit of money coming in, it may not be a lot but it's better than nothing. I will take care of my SM after posting this.

What I suggest Drew is to make this site your second business. Screw the levels of membership. Its pay to play and by that I mean figure out what you need to make it invigorating for your attention (profit). If it is 2 or 3 hundred bucks so be it. If the site doesn't survive because of cost then so be it. I know in the past you had told me you didn't want members to think your making a profit (when I was promoting SM join-ups). Now the site is at a crossroads and we all shoulod pony up.
Anyway, Drew I appreciate all you have done and if it is time to move on so be it. Best of luck on your future endeavors.
Fred
