if this site goes FB only, that's the end for me. I will NOT join FB under any circumstances.
FB has been killing the forums for a long time now, it's a shame.
I don't think anyone has suggested that. Its just where a lot sites have popped up. We are still waiting for Drew's input. He is watching where this thread goes to see if he wants close it or change courses with it.

I’ve never had face book….
I joined with a fake name, fake identity and burner email account just to peruse the Failbook Marketplace ads, which has supplanted the exalted craigslist classified ads (which is basically dead for my area and taken over by advertisements). Since it's not me, I'm not on there oversharing my life like most narcissists are.

90% Of the members are on Facebook. That is where all the action is.
Can you help me understand the FB attraction? :D It's more graphically oriented, which I like, but it seems to be geared towards phone zombies and/or their short attention span mentality. *It's for Zoomers.

Hear me out--- maybe a sister OldMiniBikes page on FB could work. It wouldn't necessarily draw the old timers or current members there, but could draw Facebookers here for the massive database, the thread format, the facility for real tech questions that can be fleshed out and content that doesn't get buried under the ridiculous FB endless-scrolling. All we need here is a nice dark mode and more photos.

EDIT: Whoops https://www.facebook.com/groups/oldminibikes But it's a private group. Maybe make it public?

The "vertical format" there (and on nearly every other social media) is just unnerving especially on a widescreen computer monitor. No one turns their phone that crucial 90° to landscape mode even in 2025 (ladies and gentlemen he have the technology...) so we are left with vertical photos (portrait mode) or vertical videos both with a clipped view of the subject matter and the resultant wasted space on the left and the right.

I mostly just use the marketplace, especially since Craigslist stop letting you search all over. Now its mostly just car dealers.
Click "for sale". Search "minibike" / "mini bike". In filters, select "owner". Optional: In filters, select "search titles only". Apply filters (they are already applied when I select them so I don't know why the "apply" button is even there...) To search large areas, use the location drop-down at top-left corner of page, select "use map". On map, zoom out to search large areas, search area on map is movable.

I think the FB "private" mini bike groups are good. Quick responses for questions, parts sold for fair prices, etc. What makes Old Mini Bikes special is "when" you get a response to a post asking for help, you can take to the bank that it is good solid advice! Most likely from someone with years of experience.

I'm in Tecumseh & vintage mini bike groups. Interesting how you sign up, you answer some questions and then they let you in or not. Being selective with members keeps out the spammers, etc. This takes a lot of work by administrators.

Just to be clear I don't like FB and only use for the groups & marketplace. I don't like being tracked and it's weird how if you look at something on Marketplace you get bombarded with like ads. No one likes the feeling of being tracked. Fortunately I use an old PC for internet stuff that doesn't have personal info so don't have to worry.

Try Brave browser, it blocks trackers and ads. I've used it for years, have it on my desktop PC, laptop, tablet and phone. https://brave.com/

Forgive me for not knowing but are the Hent.com and OldMiniBikes.com sites run by the same person (Hent) and/or one and the same? I'm trying to verify this and this seems like the "all things oldminibikes dot com" thread and the proper place for it.

There's a little "history of the forum" in this thread.

I may be wrong, but I believe Hent and the folks at OldMiniBikes had a bad falling out. The OldMiniBikes name is blocked on this site for, what I believe is that reason.
A split did indeed occur and Hent received the OldMiniBikes site but not the retail part, hence the Hent retail start up. Don't know both sides but it sounds like Drew got the screw. That leaves us where we are at with a blocked membership and a somewhat disgruntled admin.

Can you tell me more about the "faculty" of this site and this split, or lead me to a thread if you can? The forum search function doesn't like me.
If there's any consolation to the blocked membership, at least it is keeping the spammers away. DIYGK is getting hammered on the daily. :(

That is a good part of the reason why I do not log in at DIYGK anymore. Yes, the spammers have been all but eliminated here, but so have the new recruits.
