Cool ugly duckling you have there. Looks original minus the rear tire? This site has an MTD thread,You'll find it with a quick search. I have a green one with a longer front end,might be the same,cant really tell. Mine had a seat made from tape when I found it as well,lol. Looks like a Tecumseh HS40 (4HP) You might want to reroute the fuel line away from the muffler
