Either use a briggs stock muffler box or a header.. If a header is used a raptor header brace and Allen head cap screws are important.
Members of the 4cycleforum say it’s not IF vibrations will cause the braced exhaust to just snap. It’s when.. That‘s on a dirt tracks though. Brace it correctly and it will last a long time without headaches from it loosening and wrecking the block threads.
This picture is stolen from the briggs Facebook page. Zoom in and you will see the billet part bolted to the head. With the long piece of flatstock bolted to the billet piece on the head and clamped to the exhaust tube. Notice the header flange also braced to the tube to further prevent it busting. You can see the tank brace beside the exhaust brace. These engines need a lot of bracing if your going past 3600 Edit: the braces are needed for even short exhausts.. The exhaust bolts in this very picture are safety wired like aircraft..
I just finished this and I love the vintage color and engine and then after doing some painting on the rest of it I’m worried that I need to upgrade the motor color to. What’s your opinion. Leave it or paint it if so, what’s a good color?
