Like why is the crank smaller on this 4 hp then a 3 1/5. Not to mention that it only has 3 mounting holes. I figured I would just drill out the last one why not right ? What a pain in the can. Got it off a tiller inside was real clean so what the hey. It's a 2006 1775354605574.png

I'm thinking you could find others of the same hp with still different crank diameters. Depends on what the cranks were intended to drive, is my guess. Part nos. are a better reference point for different size engines. I wanna say I've seen those 3 hole mounts on tillers I've torn down.

Kinda sketchy but it works I have a nice old 3 1/5 for it but it lost spark. So I was gonna use this one for now.
Many thanks. Maybe it is a bit sketchy but it works and might even be “legit", like something a certified engineer might use to get the job done, knowing that in normal circumstances it won’t fail catastrophically and reflect badly on said engineer.

The ebay link still works from this thread (it’s a product or keyword search) but it shows that it’s a thing. Where did you get the adapter out of curiosity?

Those adapters are all over eBay. Just use the search words 5/8 to 3/4 shaft adapter.

Those chippers go for about $80 around here, I have had a few. The 5hp is the smallest engine they put on them and struggles to keep up with anything but light dry branches. I have the same one with a 10hp Tecumseh on it and that dog will hunt.
