new guy from Ohio

#1

So, I got the old minibike frame from my uncle about 6-7 years ago and i find this old briggs for it so my wifes (girlfriend at the time) boys can have a little fun. Now they don't ride it, but i do :). I've been looking at hopping up the motor, as It just doesn't pull 200 lbs up the slightest of hills, but after looking up the engine code; it appears to be a 1950 2hp.
So I'm thinking of picking up a 5hp briggs and starting on that.
I've always loved this little machine, put a lot of seat time on this baby when I get was a kid and I still can't help but giggle a little on the inside when I get on it. :)

Welcome to the fun. If you don't already have a 5hp briggs you can get a 6.5hp predator engine from harbor freight for 100. Lots of guys like them on here. I have on on one of my bike and I'm 220 pounds and it pulls me around great.

For Sure  !

Welcome aboard JoeGamma !

Sounds like a good excuse to either as you say buy a 5hp motor....or an even better excuse to consider buying that 5hp connected to the frame of a second mini bike..!!

You know...keep your old one and it's cool vintage 2 hp briggs intact..and find you a second one for your now growing minibike collection.. ..oh you know...like those potatoe chips...you can't have just one ! !

Lot's more giggles where those came frome.

Again welcome !!

She's been ok with the collectors motorcycle (hence the gamma in my name), the rc cars-helis-planes, the tuning cars, Eclipse Gsx and currently a Subaru, the aspirations of becoming a home shop machinist/wood working/any tool I can fit in my garage.
So, I think she'll be ok with a lil less expensive hobby. LOL

Yeah, it's always been a constant "just keep it running" now I can give it a little love, pulled the motor out yesterday and pulled the head, checked the valves, plained the head and intake surface joints then resealed those with a thin bit of rtv and cleaned it up and put the head back on...sans govna...it has a lil more power now and started on the first pull (even with not replacing any gaskets) once I realized I had left the needle sitting on the work bench, and draining the little bit of gas I had put in the tank out on the garage floor  lol.

The boy just rode it for the first time in about 3 years (my cousin has had it), he's 16 and has his own car but still grins like I do when he's on it. He noticed I "did something" to it, lol.

That smile and feeling never goes away. If I need a smile I usually get one of my bikes out..unless it won't start then I get angry..
