New guy here... Hello!

What your calling junk, some of us would jump at the chance to get.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

After having the newer :chinese: bikes, stock, modified, modified heavily, I am done with them.

I am now looking at the older bikes. I finally got a Super Bronc which I am currently rebuilding. Sure, I may have more into it than buying a new bike, but I prefer it this way. I know what is in it. I rebuilt it with my hands. It was originally built by someone that took pride in what they did 40 years ago.

Now I am rambling.

I just feel that building a bike is way more fun than just buying one.

One more note. OldMiniBikes sells good stuff. Lots of OldMiniBikes parts are in my bikes.
Not Rambling at all. I love hearing it.

When i say junk, im talking about the ones ive gone to look at are the china made ones that have been hacked up. Or the ones that people want 400 or 500 bucks for but they have been mangled. How many of you will drop 400 bucks for a frame thats in terrible shape?

I was thinking that perhaps the frame kit that OldMiniBikes sells would be a good way to start a project. Looks like it would have everything and i would be building it with my own hands. And i would be starting with about 400 bucks into it.

Plus, it would eliminate me having to drive all over the place and dealing with flakey people that want to much for their bikes. I drove over an hour last night after work to go look at a doodble bug that had cracks in the frame. And the person still wouldnt come down on the price.

I envy those of you that can find a roller for 100 bucks. Truely i do, but it isnt the reality that i am seeing in my area. I think im getting a little bit frustrated.

Im not giving up. Just venting a bit...

Im just asking about the OldMiniBikes kits. And if they are quality frames. I'll still look at CL and hopefully i will find a decent one out there.

Haha! Dang, now im the one rambling. Sorry and thank you for your time...

The only reason I am here, and spend too much on mini bikes is the nostalgic value. For me and many others, the old pieces of junk bring back childhood memories. (In my case, NE Portland after 1970)

You may need to decide where you fit into all of this. Some of us spend thousands on old restorations. That Cat you were asking about- I have spent more than that for the same bike in worse condition.

What do "you" want out of a mini bike? If it's basic off-road transportation, you can get a Chinese-made pit bike that does the job better, for less money. Otherwise, it's a labor of love that'll cost you three times it's market value.
They do bring back old memories for me as well. I think the difference with me is that i cannot afford to throw thousands into one.

I want something i can put together with my little boy and we can be proud of it cause it was made by "us"

Im just exploring my options here guys. Thats all. And like i said, venting a bit from my frustration.

I thank you all for the valuable input...

They are Azusa frames OldMiniBikes sells them , they are fine , most of the guys on this site are purists , but IMO if you can't find a descent and simple Restoration for your first build the kit is a fine way to get started in this fabulous hobby we all love ! If you can find a Doodle Bug that would be great too ! :scooter:

Thanks for the response. I appreciate it.

Are the doodlebugs compatible with most parts and/or engines on the OldMiniBikes site?
From my experience (as well as best guess) the doodlebug frames are compatible with any OHV Honda clone, eg. Predator, Greyhound. As well as Briggs and others. Also, if you can weld, it WILL fit.

There is a Doodle Bug forum on this site , OldMiniBikes has a ton of stuff available for them , I like the older style DB30 , you can put any clone on em easy , if you are mechanically skilled you can cut new slots for mounting the engine , I'd advise searching posts on engine swaps to learn the tricks to making it simple , or they sell an engine adapter plate for $40 that your 8yr old could do by himself ! There is a sticky on the DB forum for engine swaps !
this one I just finished and I got the ideas from jdogg , he's a member that built an awesome DB-30 and I loved his design and was more than happy to help as all members are , get something and get started
