New Heald VT10-40 project

Needs a few pieces but Im already starting to gather them. Like the tank and seat. I need fenders. It has a Tecumseh HM100 Motor with what appears to be a lighting coil ,original muffler, motor will be coming off and being sold or traded possibly for some nice fenders. I’ll see if it fires with starting fluid before I put it on the block. I’ll give the results when I get it figured out.
It has s disc on the jackshaft. I may need an original bracket and caliper if anyone knows where to find them. I’m hoping disassembly will start soon. Nice find Randy.

Yes, I wish we could convince you to keep that hm100 on there. I understand (I think) the appeal of the predators...plug and play, dependable, easy to mod. But in my opinion, once you get the big tecumseh engines running right, they are every bit as reliable, if not more so than the predators.

And that one's got lighting ability, driver, driven, and everything.

Either way Randy, enjoy your new project, and keep us posted of your progress.

I plan on putting on an electric start 6.5hp with torque cam. Should be able to keep the jackshaft set up.Plenty of power for what I need. I like the smooth acceleration of the clones that Tecumsehs never seem to have. Will still be able to run a light although after using the rechargable headlamp at Windber I dont think I will ever need a headlight on a mini bike again.

Cut the stock bars off. I hate Heald bars. Going to plug and reinforce the top plate now that I ground off their welded on washers. Motor fires on starting fluid. Pulled that off. I might have a buyer for it locally since his motor is “tired” if not I will let you know. Motor seems to have good compression and is clean. They had some sort of ATC fender on the rear that worked and half a fender and some clear acrylic on the front. I might be getting some fenders from someone we race with. I won’t say who. Still debating on going with stock Jackshaft or fabricating a different brake set up. Also need to send out and get sand blasted. While I figure out what color I want to go with. I havent tried it yet. I think if there is I can get around it by raising the engine or tilting it. It wont be a problem though because if there is an issue I will go to a Tav unit and add a brake directly on the rear wheel. I have built at least 3 using 6.5hp clones and one with an 18hp clone.

Seems like one Heald that I had in the past that someone had put a clone on it and had a board under the engine so it would clear the jackshaft assembly. Wasn't if this was going to be an issue for you and how you were going to work around it. Look forward to watching your build.
