Newbie looking for advice

I am digging the water-resistant character of this one. But will you get zapped if you're touching the handlebar?

S'pose it couldn't hurt to have both. One for kill and one for main on/off power.
No, you won't get zapped by the kill switch. Reason is, you're providing a ground to the primary side of the coil. Bikes have used these for 50 plus years. The one I pictured is repop of a vintage Magura if I recall.

Looking for a little more info. Someone mentioned that the shaft on my motor needed to be 2.3" long, it is not, it is more like 1 3/4". is this going to be a problem? I was planning on just a clutch, 10 tooth, and a 60 tooth sprocket.
Also, I was looking to order a carburetor rebuild kit, I dont see any model numbers on the carburetor, and when I use the motor model number, I get a kit that is good for a wide variety on motor models, including 5 horsepower, are they all the same?
Thanks.

Yeah, those carb kits are pretty standard. Clutch: I have used a bit of crankshaft to extend my existing crankshaft. What I did was drilled it and threaded it with 5/16 unf and threaded a longer grade 5 in to it, through the clutch, then threaded in to the actual crank shaft. You could also use some jackshaft material. Disclaimer: It may explode and kill everyone within a ten mile radius, but it worked fine for me on modest power. I'd never do that with any kind of performance.

It seems that changing out the crankshaft is the right way to fix this. Is there a part number, or other such info to wright weight,
It is. I offered a solution that worked on one of my projects long ago since I assumed you did not want to take that option. Cranks are getting harder to find, but if you take the serial number off of your shroud and check parts tree on line, you can get a part number for it. Or supply it here and I will do that. I just recalled having done the same thing on a Tote Gote with a big block Briggs on it, with a Comet 44. Crank was too short for that also, and bought a spacer to fill in the gap with a hole. Production piece. So it's nothing new.

If you are going to look for a crankshaft anyway, look for one with a ball bearing on the drive side, they are out there. The side load put on a mini bike/go kart engine crankshaft by the clutch chain/torque converter puts considerable side load on the drive side of the crankshaft and the plain bearing is only splash lubricated.

You will need the crank with bearing and side cover to match.

It is also possible to install a ball bearing on a plain bearing crank, you will still need the ball bearing side cover.

Havasu Dave, I appreciate your help figuring out what crank to look for.
Here is my info: 3 1/2 horsepower
Model 094202-0117-E1
Code 990316YB
That model tracks back to the 793150 crankshaft, and looking at the ones on Ebay, those have the short shaft as well. I did see some other 3.5 horizontal cranks listed with other model numbers, but I just don't know if the clearances and strokes are correct. I'd consider sourcing another engine, or doing the trick I spoke to earlier. I am sorry I was unable to provide more help.

Thank you so much guys, appreciate the help. Ill post when I figure out what Im going to do.
If you didn't buy the billet rod yet, you might want to figure out your goals for this engine. Your dad wants to keep it stock, and i respect that.
Maybe just build a really nice stock 3.5 and enjoy it. Don't beat the piss out of it and respect it for what it is.
Maybe put a throttle stop on it if your friends want to go nuts.
