Newbie's Mini, WARNING LOTS O PICS

#1
Well, Here is my attemt at a MINI. I had the Rear of a Mini that I had cut in half. ( I used the front on my Trike Kart Project). Fabbed up a frame, with no plans in sight. Used some stuff lying around my house. fabbed up a front axle so I could use the original mini Tire with the bicycle Springer. Then I grabbed an Engine off craigslist. Guy wanted $45 for it It would not start so I gave him $20.00. Took it home and sprayed some carb cleaner it started right up. I am having some issues with it though. It is a Craftsman Model 143-614052 serial 0320 12244. Does anyone know who makes the engine. I cannot seem to find the adjust screw on the carb. It seems to idle way to high. Any help and comments would be wonderful.

pretty cool man. Welcome to the forum. I'm curious about how the mini will ride with the forks like that. Let us know.

I will assume it will ride like a bike. A little weird on the turns. Not too worried It is just for riding around the Swap meets and flea markets. ANY HELP on the CARB Adjust or make of the Engine??

Well, That first engine is a 3 or 3.5hp Tecumseh engine.

Carburetor is a lauson most likely... Could be fixed jet. A rebuild kit can do wonders along with a new air cleaner. All parts should be available from sears online parts department. If parts aren't available they should at least have a part number listed.

Here is a link to the Sears Carburetor diagram.
I think it is a non-adjustable Carburetor...... They claim they were made do to local E.P.A. regulations.

You can upgrade to an adjustable Carburetor....They are around.

Looks like your trike has a briggs 5hp????

Yeah your right on the Trike. Need to break that one down and start Paint this spring.:doah:

So I guess "fixed jet" means no adjustment??

CRAP I am starting to like my Flathead briggs better already. Is there any way to adjust the governor to idle lower. I noticed 3 holes for the spring and 3 holes up top of the bracket for the rod arm. Any info on how these are set up??

And what about Throttle control. Is there and after market one like for my Briggs or do I have to rig something up?/

thanx for the answers:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm completely diggin' on that frame... until the ammo can.

I understand the utility of your 'trunk' but it sure spoils the lines.

Other than that... Cool Rig!

That thing is sweet.......!!!!!!! where did you get the springer front end?
the front end is just stock 20" Lowrider Bicycle Forks. The front half of the frame came from an old schwinn Banana seat bike. A girls frame with straight tubing. Matched the Mini Bike tubing perfect. Still trying to dial in the engine. Still need to get clutch and brakes. Also need to get a throttle rigged up. The Mini was pretty old. Can any one tell from the rear wheel if it had drum brakes on the inside not the outside band brakes

one other option you have is a bolt on jackshaft? with a bolt on you could keep the whole drive chain system on one side. from the looks of the crank case cover it has the 4 bolt holes that can be tape out and threaded for the unit to bolt up to. weld on will still work fine for you too.:thumbsup:just more fab work to do:weld:

Welcome. Cool bike. Your tecumseh carb is giving trouble I would replace it with a ajustible one and put on a new throttle control for minibikes on it.Tecumseh makes one set up for minibikes. Call Brandt from Rupp parts and he can get it straighten out for you. I would also invest in a Tecumseh L head 3-11hp,4-cycle engine manual P/N 740049. I got mine from ebay for around 10.00 new +S/H. Money well spent and it has the Sears cross over numbers to tecumseh numbers in it. Good luck.

Thanx everyone for the info and help with my build. It Looks Like I can get a 5/8" Clutch with set screws for my existing Engine Shaft. I can drill and tap the end of the shaft so I can put a Bolt and Washers like my Brigss. Or It seems I can get a locking collar. SO I do not need to rig up the drawing I should be able to set in up like normal. Thanx Again More PICS sonn ( I hope)

I'm having trouble picturing the sissy bar on there. Might make it too tall looking in the arse end.

I'm thinking one of those universal fenders for a utility trailer might look real sharp in the back. Especially one that is long enough to wrap around at least 1/2 the tire or more.
