Oil temp gauge

#1
I was thinking about putting an oil temp gauge on my minibike. I would have to drill and tap a hole in my crankcase for the sensor. And I would need a lil voltage for the gauge (I think it's just for the backlight).ha

Anyone here have any input on this? Has anyone seen this done, or done it them selves?

I think you can get them without needing any voltage. Like you said, maybe it's just for the light. As far as reaction time for changes in temp, I think the quickest would probably be a pyrometer in the exhaust pipe. Or you can just get one of those digital tachs which also tells you cyl head temp. I guess they just have a sensor that goes around the spark plug. I've never tried putting any gauges on my stuff yet. I'm too cheap and never got around to it.

heck yea a regular mechanical water temp guage should work fine no voltage needed. They usually come with a bunch of adapters so you may be able to screw it right into the oil fill hole
