I have noticed the lack of bugs. They were smashed all over the fronts of cars during interstate travel in the past and you could entertain yourself with the "bug slaughter" on the windshield during a long trip.

I used to absolutely get eaten up by mosquitoes in years past but not anymore. Plus there were tons of honeybees pollenating everything and you'd get stung walking barefoot in the grass or the kids did... . . .

We have noted a significant reduction it butterflies in the yard this year. We have hosted Monarch butterflies for the past 5 or so years and normally right now we would be surrounded by them. This summer we have had only two females laying eggs and have only hatched out a dozen or so. Swallowtails are the same story, normally they would be flying through the yard all day long, this year I have only seen a dozen or so.

Today's hatch:

You guys can stop looking ,we had a late spring this year and all your mosquitoes are around here right now .Usually gone by the end of June ,but they are still in full force .You are welcome to come pick them up anytime if you are lonely for them .

Had a bumper crop of June beetles at the start of the week, all buzzing over the lawn and breeding I suppose. These are the thumb-sized, huge and rather intimidating green and gold beetles. They are excellent flyers by the way and harmless except for bumping into the occasional window.

Those green and gold are Japanese beetles.
