Pennzoil Kart body - Rick Mears number 1

#1
I recently bought this body and it had a junk frame.

The body is in excellent condition and all graphics are in great shape too.

I believe that Pennzoil had issued a number of karts for their dealer network, but really don't know much
history. Some were issued with different drivers names and numbers, but this one seems
to be after Rick Mears won Indy in 1984 for Penske.

Anyone ever see one or know the history of these karts? Going to make a new frame for it from scratch
and put in a Predator.

I've seen both penzoil and valvoline. The bodies are very cool but the chassis was a simple single wheel drive design. If I had that body I would do exactly what you are planning, build my own.

Thanks for the reply, Ole

Yes the simple chassis was 1 1/4 inch ..060 square tube. Bent like a banana in the middle like a300 lb. guy
Did an Evel Knievel stunt!

Wheelbase is 48 inches so it should accommodate an adult when done.

When I worked at a Goodyear store in the early 80's, we had one to give away as a promotion. I think it had a Briggs+Stratton 3HP, and I know we changed the tires to Goodyears.

3hp makes sense since the space for the engine in the body is pretty small.

When I remake the frame will see if one of those Predator 79cc motors will fit.
