We have done a 5hp header pipe lots of times. It is placed at a distance that works fine... Doesn't heat up the carb.
If you can make this work this rupp will burn up the road and trails..

You might be concerned about lubrication with the angled mount, but the kart racing guys who utilize the Briggs Raptor on an angled mount (I think it's 15°) use less oil than the factory specified 20-28 oz.

Some sources recommend 14 oz on the angled mount. I guess the dipper is in no danger of going dry....and at high RPM very little oil is at the bottom of the sump--just about all of it is suspended in the air!

Pipe should be fine as-is like Old Shed says. Plenty of older flatties have the pipe running right beside the carb--Briggs never saw fit to introduce a heat shield for it. However there are plenty of cheap mini bike heat shields on Ebay that attach with hose clamps and which might make your pump diaphragm last longer. Might give it a snazzy look but it should be facing towards the carb so I guess there's no real glamour to be gained.
