Please help I'm Desperate

#1
Please help! I just ruined the side cover and cam. It chewed the side cover for some reason after I had taken it apart to remove the governor parts. I need a replacement side cover and cam. Can anyone help?

Also, does the side cover gasket serve as a shim? Or can I just use some red RTV?

I need it ASAFP for trip to the desert for Thanksgiving. Its the first trip with the Dune Cat I am restoring for my 4 and 6 year old girls. :crying:

The lack of sidecover gasket may have killed this for you! The gasket helps send the end play. I have a stock cam for you...free plus postage. I also think I may have the gaskets. Cannot help on the side cover though. Send me a pm if you want the cam and gaskets. You may be OK with that sidecover...it does not appear too chewed up in the pics!

Is the bearing presses onto the crank? Or should it slide off with minimal effort? Should I get the bearing off the crank and put it in the cover first, then put the cover on?

There may be zero play or slight interference fit between the bearing race and crankshaft, you may need a puller to remove, I would set the cam/crank timing and reinstall the bearing on the crank, new gasket and install the side cover gently, I coat both sides of the gasket with grease, it helps seal things up better.....................Tom.

You need to replace that cover, what sucks is it's a bearing engine so a cover isn't as easy to find. Were it a bushing cover I'd send you one for the ride, I have a pile of fivers for parts only just no bearing blocks. Good luck and don't give up, someone has the part.

If your in a hurry, better go pick up a predator.
That is actually a very good suggestion Karen!
That will also give time to find the right parts and do it right...Those gaskets come in thicker and thinner size.. grab a couple of each and set the endplay to spec, or slightly looser than spec...a touch loose is still better than too tight...

can't that side cover be polished out? even if the scars are still there it should be possible to polish it out enough to smooth the surface and brake all the sharp edges in order to Keep it from doing further damage shouldn't it? but the face of it may loose some thickness needing a shim afterward. if it is possible I would only trust that type of job to someone who knows what they are doing like a machine shop or engine builder. if done improperly it means more damage.
