It looks like an E or F series solid engin plate... Hard to tell any more from the poor quality of the photo. The correct motor would be a Tecumseh

By God I wouldn't be surprised to see someone do it. Those things are kinda pricey.. WITH a kickstart motor? Eh... looks like a Briggs and Stratton iron engine from the 40's.. With a (ratchet chain??) is that what it said? I would actually say Y model Briggs from the 30's wich are pretty pricey as well.. But I can see that it is not a Y.... It's worth something...

550.00 no way maybe if it had the original motor and chainguard in running condition thats just a pile of parts someone threw together you can get those motors in beter shape than that for 75.00 to 100.00

That would be a Tecumseh 4HP with lighting coil for the E series had a headlight and a tail light. As for the F series I don't think they had the bracket for the tail light maybe scooterboy can clear this up as he has an F series. No Briggs on these models not that they wont work they just started using Tecumseh products for what ever reason another missing peice of the puzzle..
