Rounded Blower Housing - HS40 - Modifications

#1
Hello Gentlemen, are you a Tecumseh expert? I have a mid-70s HS40 with the square looking blower housing. I have a Rupp 1972 blower housing that I want to install. Interestingly, its a points engine with a steel flywheel.

Do I need to change the flywheel and or starter cup to make this work. Thank you!

You might need a thin flywheel and corresponding starter cup. Hard to tell how thick the flywheel is from the pic.
you could bolt on the rounded shroud and see if there is interference?

Read # 15 "Flywheel and Blower Housings" from this very informative article:

Thank you. Yes, I just read that article and it was great. I sent him an email as I had a question. It was not clear to me what flywheel I need. He talks about converting a snowblower HS50, not an HS40. Looking on ebay, there are hundreds of flywheels. Not sure which one I need. :)

OK, I guess it's time for me to chime in here, since this thread turned into a train wreck! If anyone would have looked at your 2nd picture in your initial posting, they would have seen the 3-prong lighting stator plug sticking out of the front of the engine. The good news is you have the correct round top 72 blower housing for the aluminum lighting flywheel with the studs and not screws to mount the recoil. The flywheel number you need is a 610769A or a 610869 from the 2-stroke AH817MB engine. Both of these flywheels have 12 magnets. The tapers are the same and so is the fin configuration. A 30755 number lighting flywheel is for the early H50 - H70 medium frame engines. The bad news is these flywheels are super hard to find. I may have one, but it's not $60 like a 32517. I hope this clears things up. Good Luck in your search.

Bob, quick question. Why so much focus on the slim looking 32517 flywheel. What was this part used on..
