You have to hone the cylinder to remove any glazing and out of shapedness.. Then a new rod would be a good idea.. pull the crank and check both crank journals..

OR, best thing to do when one blows up is,

beat it loose with a hammer and run it the rest of the way to death, then junk the block and find another ten years from now..

I would pop the rod cap off and check the crank for aluminum stuck to it before putting the head back on. It would suck to fire it up and put a hole in your block
