Intake port is nearly hogged out enough I can start epoxying in a ramp. Then I’ll start on hogging out an ramping the exhaust port. Fourth picture shows a Mike Clements epoxy ramped block. 5B48540B-838B-48BE-9F74-2E159EB2686E.jpeg FA5DBB5E-319B-4037-BC9A-F1E5E8947235.png 883F0808-E646-4FC9-8124-C40B84CF09A7.jpeg EA2818D1-FE33-43B5-A5AF-58D5832C2770.png

Notice Mike slip fit a tube into the valve guide that sticks out of the epoxy. That way there was no drilling or any work to get the exhaust valve guide hole back in sight.

I was just about to ask what epoxy you were planning to put in the exhaust port. I was thinking NONE was the best answer. I'm glad you caught that.
I knew you had a Willys, but the picture with the hood up is interesting! I had a 327 in a Jeepster. I could not keep rear ends in it.

It’s a handful and I worried at first about the rear and transmission. They have taken the abuse well.

The port is the size I need. I threw away the busted raptor block that had the loose valve guide insert I could of snagged. Now I’m tasked with keeping the valve guide hole in sight while laying epoxy over it.

My first thought is to cut the head off a junk valve polish the stem and wire it in place then just as the epoxy settles twist the stem out?

First picture is a stock port second picture is a piece of sandpaper to visualize the ramp before it’s made from epoxy. 165C8B62-9E52-4304-81AE-7E1D62AC9724.jpeg AB7A09A6-0ECC-4E76-99E2-4D21D840C07D.jpeg

I think I killed it. Either the intake valve was simply never sealing in the first place or the epoxy expanded and pushed the seat out of whack. The valve is a leaky mess. If it won’t lap in then that means the seats moved. That’s me learning stuff the first time the hard way. Next time I know to stay away from the seat. Either way there will be a next time.

I was worried for nothing. The valve lapped in perfectly with less then a couple minutes work.

After the epoxy I was getting the guide hole back in sight. Then noticed the intake valve failed a water/flashlight test with the spring in pushing down on the valve miserably.

After a VERY LIGHT lapping the valve passed both tests without the spring in at all. I thought I CHUNKED it.

The port on this little 4hp got moved significantly.

It got a few baths and I decided not to wait till the 27th of next month for the other cog pulley. So I just re-assembled it with the v-belt system. All that’s left is to put oil in it and hook up the carburetor back up.

If you want one of those old 5 horse Briggs screw-in exhaust restrictors, I have a new one still in the bag.
Thank you but I’ll pass on it. I’m looking around to try and find any forums with people using putty to completely re-shape the exhaust port.

I would really really like to move the exhaust port over.

Fuel enters the port. Slams the back port wall then gets sucked up and slams the bottom of the intake valve. Then gets sucked over the eyebrows into the cylinder and it all just seems mediocre for efficiency.

There is ZERO restriction in now (except maybe the actual size of the port) now everything’s gonna slam into the front top wall of the exhaust port.

Back together no fuel tank just a bit of gas out of a zoom bottle and it started FIRST PULL..

Happily thumping at idle until it burnt up all the fuel. 11pm but it’s ok because Saturdays for the boys let’s hook up the fuel tank and wake up all the neighbors.

This happens every winter I’ll be outside working in the snow at 12am business as usual.. I choose not to accept that I have to stop working when it gets dark at 5pm. 004E5809-B1B5-44FF-B91D-57ED83EAE5E7.jpeg
