Hmm. Just curious, what makes a sprocket "shot"? Is it too warn in the teeth?
The nuts and bolts are there because they are holding the two halves of the Tri-Star wheel together, and the drum to the wheel. I just reassembled it the way it was when I got it, and it's sitting in the basement so as not to become rusty again in this humid Maryland summer weather. It always looked funny to me too, and I guess that's why the bike had a scrub brake rather than a drum brake.
Oh well, the fun part of it, for me, is the learning experience I get from it all.
The tri-star wheel isn't evident in the picture. What would be better to hold them together rather than those bolts?
