Tech ohh50 leaking oil from bottom of PTO cover

#1
Hello Everyone,

My Boonie Bikes' Techumseh ohh50 is leaking oil from bottom of crankcase cover on side w PTO.

I changed the oil, and inadvertantly overfilled it...althought the 'dipstick' did not indicate it ? I ran the motor, up the street and back, then realized i'd over added oil by about 6 ounces.

I drained the oil, replaced the plug, then poured in the recommended 21 ounces of oil. Motor runs same....but now when parked overnight...big puddle of oil in floor....only place on motor or mount that is oily is the motor mount just below the cover of the crankcase on the PTO side.

My question...does this sound like a blown seal ?

If not, any ideas ?

Thank you,

Robert

Replace the cover gasket. Gasket probably broken down and disintegrated.

Or the cover bolts loose...
Hello Stangrcr1, thank you for the suggestion.

I just thought it was a weird coincidence that it happened at the same time that I ran it with too much oil....could this cover gasket 'blow' from running 6 oz too much oil for a couple hundred yards ?

Going to have to pull that cover off and see what's going on in there.

Thanks again,

Robert

Nah, probably just an old gasket. Cheap and easy to replace. BTW, in case you don't know, do not remove the gasket and just put RTV. The gasket thickness is important to crank sideplay.
